ashley mcmahon grew up in a small town in arkansas, where he went to college and played running back for the razorbacks. during his time with the razorbacks, ashley pulled penalty after penalty for starting fights on the field, roughing the passer, and other unsportsmanlike conduct. he played well, but his coach had to work with him for the entirety of his college football career to get him to stop being so aggressive on the field. his coach's words, reminding him he'll never play professionally with an attitude like his, still ring in his ears to this day. ashley was drafted after his college career to play for my favorite made up team the colorado frostwolves in the nfl.
since he was small, ashley has known he's not like most of the other boys in his school, or on his team, or in his town. when his high school friends were talking about girls, he'd laugh and agree, but he couldn't really relate. a late night kiss with his best friend in the woods behind his house made him feel things he'd never felt, and terrified him enough to never speak to him again. now that he's older and lived through college, ashley knows he has a strong preference for men, but that's a secret he'll keep a lid on for as long as he has to. to this day, the former friend he kissed is the only person who knows the truth. he intends to keep it that way.
for me, ashley's story is intended to be a lesson about privilege and overcoming a somewhat naive perspective on his life. not everything can be perfect all the time, and he has a long way to go to realize that. a wake up call for him was the death of his father before he could ever see ash play, something that shook his world and forced him to look at things with a new perspective. he's still swallowed most of the grief and never really processed it, preferring instead to channel that feeling into his games. i would love for him to be faced with the reality that not everyone is lucky enough to have a distraction like this, or at least not to this scale.

first impressions.
visual. ashley is 6'5", with a lean and (obviously) athletic build. brown hair and brown eyes, a clean, perfectly white smile. he carries himself with confidence, and his naturally loud voice is evidence of that. he usually can be found in his football gear coming from practice or a game, grass stains may vary.
demeanor. ashley is charismatic and cool, until he's angry. a bit of a hothead, ash has drawn a handful of penalties for being too rough on the field. he's infamous for his attitude and shittalking before and after games, something that almost didn't get him drafted at all. for better or for worse, has been lucky enough to have his path to the nfl handed to him. life with professionals has humbled him, but his spitfire attitude likely will continue to draw him backwards, unless he shapes up quickly.
voice. ashley is loud, ashley is cheerful, ashley is a little ridiculous. his accent has a touch of the small town he grew up in. here's a clip!
other info. i'm mostly looking for ships! it's what i enjoy writing the most. ash is closeted; he knows coming out will likely ruin his career in subtle ways like losing sponsorships, contracts being shorter and with less pay, etc. the nfl is a very stigmatized world, but it's all he knows. he'd do anything not to lose what he has, but what if he met just the right guy?
some ideas i have in mind for ships are things like friends from his small town reconnecting with him, or people from a higher world (the nfl and the luxury that comes with it) showing him something entirely new. i'm down for most things, including low magic settings, so let's chat!
